Add to an Adjustment Layer (or Clip) and position over a cut point.

SC CrossFade Clone will create a freeze frame for both ends of the Adjustment Layer and fade from the In clip to the Out clip. The Adjustment Layer does not have to be centered over the split (which may be used to advantage depending on how long you may want the freeze frame before or after the split.)

You *must* combine the two clips into a Compound Clip.

It’s not always possible to see the “clip split” once the two (or more) clips are in a Compound Clip, but you can click and drag the Adjustment Layer along the storyline and you will be able to see where the clips separate in the Viewer. Skimming does not have to be turned on.
